People phone and ask for IP cameras. Sometimes that is the right answer. Sometimes the house already has coax to the eaves, the pictures are acceptable, and the useful spend is a recorder that still writes at 02:00.
Pull a camera down, or at least look in the ceiling. Coax with a power pair is a different quote from a new network cable to eight points. We will not price the second job from a photo of the first.
Analogue, and the HD-over-coax that followed it, can stay where the cable is sound and the picture at night is good enough for the gate. It is the wrong place to spend when you want a phone app, a longer history, or a camera the old recorder cannot feed.
IP wants a switch, power, and a login that is not admin/admin. Remote viewing is expected. Opening the recorder to the whole internet so the app was easy is how these boxes end up on someone else's list. We would rather set the account up properly.
Mixed systems are normal. New IP on the driveway, the old cameras left on the passage until they actually fail. Replacing eight working cameras because a brochure said analogue is dead is how budgets disappear.
Book a security assessment and say what cable you think you have. If you do not know, that is why we come to the property. The CCTV page is the longer version. Pretoria 012 346 0525, Sandton 010 011 2372.
Look at the cable that is already in the roof before you buy a box of IP cameras. The CCTV page is where that visit starts.
